Anderson is the county seat of Madison county and has a population of around 60,000. It was another Indiana Gas Boom town of the late 1880's. The beautiful old courthouse built in 1892 was demolished in 1971 and was replaced by a hideous Brutish styled poorly constructed building. This is a shame and something should have been done to stop such stupidity. For decades I have avoided the area and do not like to go there.

"Big Four" Railroad Depot
This depot served as a passenger station between 1887 to 1971. It is located at East 15th Street and Main. This view is from Main street looking northwest.

Italianate House on Eight Street
A beautiful Italianate House, one of the best along Eighth street in my opinion.
West 8th Street was a beautiful street lined with nice old homes when I first visited it about thirty years ago. I was a bit
disappointed on this trip...it didn't seem the same somehow. Perhaps it was the time of day or I was in a hurry, I don't know.
Italianate House on Eight Street
This house is located across the street at an angle from the home shown above. A nice Italianate that retains it's iron cresting at the top.
Queen Anne House on Eight Street
I like this home with it's large turret and tower. It has a fine rounded portico that seems to add the final touch.
An Attractive Home on West Eight Street
With or without the roof treatment, this old home would look fine. I like the entrance and the angled corner to the left.
A Seven Span Concrete Arch Bridge
This is a tough bridge to capture showing all seven spans. It was built in 1936, has a total length of 725 feet and spans the West Fork of White River on North Jackson Street. This image is looking to the southwest.
Another View of the Bridge
This view looking northwest shows the northern four spans.
Looking through one of the spans at the thirteen span railroad deck girder bridge. I didn’t have time to check it out and get other photos, but I would like to some time. This view looks to the west. These photos were taken on March 18, 2010.
